Three high school teams to compete in FIRST Tech Challenge - Juneau Empire, February 14, 2010

FINAL REMINDERS FOR TEAMS:

Here are just a couple of notes to remember for this weekend. Please make sure that you read through everything (and review your coaches' manual) before Friday. We'll see you no later than 3 PM on Friday at the Wood Center.

1. CONSENT FORMS - Please make sure that you have a signed consent form (PDF) for each team member, coach and mentor. These will be collected during Team Check-In on Friday afternoon.

2. KNOW YOUR TEAM NUMBER - Everyone single person on the team should know their team number. The schedule will be done by team number and runners (who are there to help get teams to matches on time) will be looking for teams by number, not name.

3. PIT TABLES - Pit tables will be clearly labeled when you arrive on Friday. Please stay at the table you are assigned.

4. SCHEDULES - The schedule for Friday's judging sessions (PDF) is available. The schedule for Saturday's matches will be compiled on Friday once all teams have checked in and cleared inspection. If you have any questions or comments regarding the schedule, please call me @ 523-2334.

5. FOOD - Food is not provided to teams on Friday night. UAF is providing food tickets for the teams for lunch on Saturday at the pizza place in the Wood Center. There is also additional food available for purchase at the Wood Center. For a detailed description of dining options and hours, look here: http://www.uafdining.com/dineret/index.html.

6. PARKING -Ê Just a heads up that you will need to get a parking permit for Friday afternoon (til 5 PM). Permits can be purchased at any of the parking kiosks on campus. Parking is free after 5 PM and on the weekends.

I hope you're all looking forward to this weekend. If you have any questions as the event approaches, please feel free to call me on my cell phone - 917-902-0358. You can also check http://www.fllalaska.com for more information and updates.

Coaches' Bulletin

FTC COACHES - A few things to remember as you get ready for the tournament!

1. CONSENT FORMS - Please make sure that you have a completed form for each of your students (PDF). These must be signed by parents/guardians, so please get them out soon!

2. FIELD CONTROL SYSTEM - THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN LAST YEAR!!!! Matches at all tournaments will be run using the Field Control System (FCS) running directly on each teams' own computer. Teams will bring to the Playing Field their own computer running the FCS, Logitech Dual Action game controllers, Bluetooth dongle and USB A-B cable. The main advantages for teams controlling their own Robots are improved cycle times between matches and the near elimination of match re-plays caused by a shared FCS. It is recommended that teams use the ABE22 Bluetooth dongle that is supplied with the kit, as it has been thoroughly tested and vetted with the FCS. Teams will establish the Bluetooth connection between their Robot and their FCS while waiting in the queuing area before the match. Robots will arrive at the Playing Field ready to start their match. Match cycle times will improve because the delay for all four Robots to connect, one at a time, to the shared FCS is eliminated. For detailed instruction on the use and operation of the FCS, please refer to the FCS Manual provided on the programming tab of the FTC website: www.usfirst.org/ftc

3. INSPECTION CHECKLIST - Please make sure that you've read through the Inspection Checklist (PDF). Robot Inspection will take place on Friday evening -- please make sure you're ready!
